How to Stomp the Devil!

"Stomping the Devil" is a great way to get your group (young or old) united and fired up! The practice was an outgrowth of an old football chant used by Coach Archie McRae at West Laurens High School (Dublin, GA) during the 70's. The chant was modified by Tommy Cauthen and the members of the Harmony Quartet, who used it after prayer and before gospel sings in the late 80's and early 90's. The tradition was carried on by the youth at Pleasant Hill
...tell somebody how!

Pleasant Hill Youth stomping the devil
at SuperWOW '99

here's how...

Group members get in a tight circle. The leader extends his/her hand into the center of the circle at about knee height. All other group members place their hands on top of the leader's hand. The leader says (with enthusiasm) the following phrases, repeated by the rest of the group:

"We wounded the devil"
"He fell at our feet"
"He shall not rise"
"Jesus my Lord"
"Jesus my Savior"
"Jesus myyyyy Redeemer"

...after the last phrase is pronounced, all group members slowly raise their hands to shoulder height while saying "woooaaa"....then in one accord, they stomp their right foot into the center of the circle.
